Sametime Gateway 8.0.2 Hotfix 1 and OCS Pack is now available

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

The long awaited Sametime Gateway 8.0.2 Hotfix 1 is finally available to the public.  This Hotfix 1 package contains many fixes which will stabilize the SIP connection between the Sametime Gateway and external IM communities.  These fixes will specifically address timeout and signaling conditions which may cause the SIP connection  to inadvertently disconnect or report the incorrect status.  As part of the installation of the Hotfix, you will also upgrade your WebSphere Application Server to Fixpack 23 and reinstall some hotfixes.  While this process is meant to be flawless, problems may occur and I recommend a full backup of the server prior to upgrading the server.

On top of this, we are also introducing support of Microsoft Office Communicator Server (OCS).  This does support does not include external IM connectivity to Microsoft MSN at this time.

IBM Webcast: Sametime Resolve, Notes IM, and LDAP performance considerations – 10 June 2009

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

On June 10, 2009 I will present at an IBM Webcast on the topic of performance considerations for Lotus Sametime when using Sametime Resolve, Lotus Notes Instant Messaging, and LDAP.

Sametime Quickfind, Notes Inbox awareness, and many other features can generate a substantial number of name resolutions requests. These requests can severely impact performance and capacity in a production environment.  Join us on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. EDT (14:00 GMT) in this IBM Webcast as we talk about several recommendations and solutions you can implement today to reduce impact of name lookups on your Sametime infrastructure.

Hold the date: IBM Webcast on Reducing the Impact of Name Lookups on a Sametime Infrastructure

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

On June 10th at 10am EST, I will be presenting an IBM Webcast on Reducing the Impact of Name Lookups on a Sametime Infrastructure. Everytime a user searches for a person or group, scrolls through their inbox or authenticates to a server, a name lookup request is generated. A single scroll through an inbox view can easily generate more than 30 name lookup requests!

In this webcast, I will cover some of the recommendations IBM support is making and the solutions you can implement today to optimize the name resolution load on your Sametime server and your directory.

I will post another blog entry once I have the conference information for the meeting.
