Sametime Gateway 8.0.2 Hotfix 1 and OCS Pack is now available

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

The long awaited Sametime Gateway 8.0.2 Hotfix 1 is finally available to the public.  This Hotfix 1 package contains many fixes which will stabilize the SIP connection between the Sametime Gateway and external IM communities.  These fixes will specifically address timeout and signaling conditions which may cause the SIP connection  to inadvertently disconnect or report the incorrect status.  As part of the installation of the Hotfix, you will also upgrade your WebSphere Application Server to Fixpack 23 and reinstall some hotfixes.  While this process is meant to be flawless, problems may occur and I recommend a full backup of the server prior to upgrading the server.

On top of this, we are also introducing support of Microsoft Office Communicator Server (OCS).  This does support does not include external IM connectivity to Microsoft MSN at this time.

Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 is here!

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

It looks like there were a couple of additional fixes which needed to go into the Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 code.  IBM has now rereleased the package again which has additional stability fixes.  If you downloaded and installed this package before prior to March 3, 2009, you should update your package to this version.  To verify if you have this package installed, you can open the SystemOut.log on your server and search for the string “20090225 – STGW 801 CF1 – WSVR0203I”.  If you have this string, that means that the newer version of Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 is installed.  If you only see, “WSVR0203I”, this menas that you are using the older version of the 8.0.1 CF1 package and you should upgrade to the latest version.

The Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 package is now posted and available for immediate download on IBM Fixcentral.  Information on the fixes which are included in this package is available in the IBM Technote titled “Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 is now available“.

Sametime Gateway Sizing

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

If you haven’t taken a look at the Sametime Gateway Wiki recently, make sure you take a look at it.  It has been updated with some great information about sizing the Sametime Gateway server.  This week I’m up in Westford visiting the development and service teams.  I’ll be sure to post any valuable lessons learned from our discussions.

Yahoo Federated Gateway changes – If you have a Sametime Gateway, read this!

Filed under: Sametime, Technical Support, Technology

Yahoo is in the process of moving the location of their federation gateways. This change will prevent all Sametime Gateway deployments from establishing connectivity with the Yahoo! Messenger network.  To avoid possible service interruptions, firewalls protecting the Sametime Gateway must be updated or modified to accept incoming and outgoing traffic for the following hosts on port 5061:

  • sgw.ibm.msg.vip.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.112.84
  • sgw.ibm.msg.vip.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.56.113
  • sgw101.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.23
  • sgw102.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.24
  • sgw103.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.25
  • sgw104.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.26
  • sgw105.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.27
  • sgw106.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.28
  • sgw107.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.29
  • sgw108.ibm.msg.ac4.yahoo.com 98.136.113.30
  • sgw101.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.128
  • sgw102.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.129
  • sgw103.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.130
  • sgw104.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.131
  • sgw105.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.132
  • sgw106.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.133
  • sgw107.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.134
  • sgw108.ibm.msg.sp1.yahoo.com 98.136.43.135

This migration will be effective on April 24, 2008; therefore it is imperative that this change be made prior to that date to avoid any service interruption.  Aside from these firewall rules, there are no other application-related configuration changes required on the Sametime Gateway.
