Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 is here!

It looks like there were a couple of additional fixes which needed to go into the Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 code.  IBM has now rereleased the package again which has additional stability fixes.  If you downloaded and installed this package before prior to March 3, 2009, you should update your package to this version.  To verify if you have this package installed, you can open the SystemOut.log on your server and search for the string “20090225 – STGW 801 CF1 – WSVR0203I”.  If you have this string, that means that the newer version of Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 is installed.  If you only see, “WSVR0203I”, this menas that you are using the older version of the 8.0.1 CF1 package and you should upgrade to the latest version.

The Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 package is now posted and available for immediate download on IBM Fixcentral.  Information on the fixes which are included in this package is available in the IBM Technote titled “Sametime Gateway 8.0.1 CF1 is now available“.

The effects of IE8 with Sametime

Internet Explorer 8 has finally gone gold and being good early adopters, some Sametime users have taken it upon themselves to install IE8 on their workstations.  The chat window interface in Sametime is somewhat dependent upon the browser which is installed on the workstation to render the content and display the chat.  IE8 has made some changes to support W3C CSS standards and in doing so, they have also broken the word wrap functionality in the chat windows.

IE8 is not officially supported by IBM/Lotus Sametime yet, so in the meantime continue to use IE7.  If IBM releases a patch for this, I’ll be sure to blog it here.

Update to Sametime Standard 8.0.1 Cross chat issue

There are a couple updates to this cross chat issue.  First, if you have already downloaded this cross-chat fix you should download it again and redeploy it in your environment.  A small issue around business cards behavior was discovered and it has been corrected.

We are also an update for the Sametime Standard 8.0.2 client.  This optional update contains additional diagnostic prints and defensive code to prevent the cross-chat issue from occurring.

Cross chat….deja vu?

Anyone out there who is running Sametime Standard Connect 8.0.1 or Notes 8.0.2, read on and pay attention.  It looks like one of the quarky bugs has finally resurfaced.  The infamous cross chat bug.

Cross chat is when one user sends a message to another user and the message instead reaches an unintended recipient.  Kudos to the IBM development team for quickly isolating the problem and correcting it.  All Notes Standard 8.0.2 Clients running below the CCH3 level will need to be patched to CCH3 or higher.  Any organization which is running Sametime Standard 8.0.1 will need to apply a hotfix to the clients.  This can be done using an update site.

Both of these hotfix packages are available on IBM Fix Central.  Full details of the problem can be found in the following technote: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&uid=swg21375473

Running Sametime 8.0.2 on Domino 8.5

Several administrators have been trying to run Sametime 8.0.2 on Domino 8.5.  I would like to let all of you know that this is an unsupported configuration at this time.  Those that have tried have experienced issues such as certain community services not starting.  Unfortunately the only way to correct this configuration is to uninstall both the Domino and Sametime server, and then reinstall again.

We are planning to have Domino 8.5 in the next release of Sametime.
